Tamir Goodman “The Jewish Jordan” launches tzedakah initiative—Tzitzit for Our Soldiers—to bring revolutionary Sport Strings Tzitzit to Israel’s IDF
The revolutionary design and the many advantages that come with the high performance materials of the garment make Sport Strings Tzitzit uniquely and perfectly suited to meet the physical and spiritual needs of IDF combat soldiers.
WHO: Dubbed the “Jewish Jordan” by Sports Illustrated magazine, Tamir Goodman played division one college and professional basketball, without playing on Shabbat, including six seasons in Israel. Goodman is the creator of Sport Strings Tzitzit which features a revolutionary garment consisting of a sleek design and hi-performance materials. Tamir is also an in-demand public speaker, founder and director of the non-profit Coolanu Israel, and partner with Israeli NBA player Omri Casspi in presenting basketball camps for youth. Goodman is also a former IDF soldier.
WHAT: As a former IDF soldier, Goodman knows from personal experience the importance of being equipped with high quality gear that supports physical exertion during training exercises and combat situations. Goodman also knows that many soldiers seek to be “spiritually armed” during combat missions. To address the dual need for physical and spiritual comfort, Goodman has launched Tzitzit for Our Soldiers to outfit IDF soldiers with Sport Strings Tzitzit and its many advantages. Sport Strings uniquely meets the physical needs of soldiers because the tzitzit feature moisture and odor wicking properties, UV protection, anti-microbial technology, and a smooth compression fit which together enhance range of motion, eliminate chafing and skin irritation, and keep soldiers dry and comfortable. The unmatched comfort and durability of Sports Strings meets the spiritual needs of IDF soldiers since the garment construction strictly adheres to the halachic requirements for tzitzit and is certified kosher by the OK.
WHY: In a recent conversation with the Chief IDF Rabbi’s Office, Goodman was told that during Operation Pillar of Defense, tzitzit were in high demand among the IDF’s soldiers; over 8,000 pairs of tzitzit were distributed to troops and yet there were still not enough to meet soldiers’ requests. It is Goodman’s hope that Tzitzit for Our Soldiers will not only help address the need for additional pairs of tzitzit, but will also provide soldiers with tzitzit that will support and enhance their intense training and combat missions.
WHEN: The first shipment of Sport Strings Tzitzit is being sent to Israel in the coming days. Goodman is seeking additional sponsors to help bring more pairs of Sport Strings to the IDF.
